RE-WORK DESIGN STUDIOS
This year I undertook my biggest project to date - Re-Work. The idea stems from my belief that all good causes need good design, to help elevate their cause and drive their mission. In short, Re-Work is a design studio which hopes to establish and mediate relationships between not-for-profit organisations and student designers.
For not-for-profits, its offers the opportunity of solutions to their design needs on a pro-bono basis, as it is common for smaller not-for-profits to have a limited to no design budget, and for myself and students, it offers the chance to grow our portfolios and work alongside good causes.
My pop-up design studio was situated in the Piazza, Huddersfield and I shared the space with another student. Together, we completely redecorated the unit and branded our own 'companies'. We hosted a number of different events, such as a student portfolio peer review session and opening/closing nights. I also operated out of the unit, meeting with different not-for-profit organisations and working on projects along side them, as well as bringing younger students to design meetings and collaborating with them on ideas.
The project has been a huge success for myself, the organisations and the students involved. It is a piece I am incredibly proud of, and I am still operating on a pro-bono basis for a number of organisations I partnered with during the project.
